Equiano Original Rum is a premium rum with an international focus that blends African and Caribbean rum traditions. It is produced by blending aged rums from Mauritius and Barbados. The Mauritian portion is produced at Gray’s Distillery and aged in various oak barrels, while the rum from Barbados comes from the historic Foursquare Distillery. Aging takes place under tropical climatic conditions, which facilitates an intense exchange between the distillate and the oak. The result is blended in limited batches and bottled at 43% alcohol by volume.

A key characteristic of Equiano Original is its consistent refusal to add any ingredients after production. The rum is produced without added sugar, spices, flavorings, or colorings, thus emphasizing the natural character of the distillates used and their barrel aging. Equiano is named in honor of Olaudah Equiano, a writer and abolitionist who rose to prominence in the 18th century.
