The Octomore Edition 17.1 Super Heavily Peated Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky serves as the benchmark for the Octomore 17 series and highlights the interplay between intensely peated distillate, barley, and classic bourbon cask aging. It is produced by the Bruichladdich Distillery on Islay using 100% Concerto barley from the Scottish mainland, sourced from the 2019 harvest and malted to a phenol content of 81.0 PPM. Distillation took place in 2020, after which the whisky matured entirely in first-fill bourbon casks for a total of five years. This deliberately straightforward cask selection allows the characteristic Octomore style to be presented in its purest form and also serves as a benchmark for the series’ other releases with more complex maturation profiles.

The .1 Edition of Octomore is traditionally matured in bourbon or American whiskey casks, with its character varying from release to release depending on the barley, year of distillation, and maturation conditions. In the Octomore 17.1 Release 2026, the sweet notes of first-fill bourbon casks combine with intense peat smoke and maritime influences. Particularly noteworthy is the balance between 81.0 PPM, just five years of maturation, and a robust bottling strength of 59.7%. The whisky spends its entire maturation period on Islay, embodying a concentrated, distillate-driven style in which sweet malt, American oak, coastal freshness, and peat smoke remain clearly discernible.
