The Habitation Velier PAPA ROUYO Guadeloupe Pure Single Rum 2022 56.7% is an exceptional pure single rum from Guadeloupe, made entirely from fresh sugarcane juice. It was produced at Papa Rouyo in Goyave, a distillery that carries on the legacy of sugarcane planter Charles Albert Ruscade, known as Papa Rouyo. The sugarcane varieties Canne Moulle and Canne Rouge are used for this bottling. The juice extracted from them was distilled discontinuously in 2022 in the two copper pot stills “Agathe & Danielle.” Particularly noteworthy is the high ester content of 430.1 g/hlpa, which underscores the distillate’s intense aromatics and distinctive character.

The rum was then aged for one year under tropical conditions in Guadeloupe in ex-Cognac barrels and French oak, and was bottled by Habitation Velier in 2023. Even during this short tropical aging period, the Angel’s Share exceeded 8%. It is bottled at a robust 56.7% ABV at cask strength, without added colorants or sugar, and is non-chill-filtered, thereby preserving the original character of the sugarcane, pot-still distillation, and barrel aging. The Papa Rouyo 2022/2023 Habitation Velier thus combines traditional sugarcane processing, intense tropical aging, and transparent production details into a particularly characterful Guadeloupe Pure Single Rum, presented in a 0.7-liter bottle with a gift box.
