Produced from molasses, the spirit was distilled in 2016 using a traditional, fully discontinuous process in a copper double-retort pot still. This bottling bears the Hampden "OWH" mark—standing for "Omar Warmington Hussey"—which represents a relatively moderate ester concentration within the distillery’s distinctive, high-ester style. The rum was matured for seven years entirely under tropical conditions in Jamaica, resting in ex-bourbon casks. This intensive tropical aging resulted in an exceptionally high "angel’s share" of over 42%, which significantly concentrated the distillate during the maturation period.

In 2023, the rum was bottled by Habitation Velier at a robust cask strength of 60% ABV. It has not been chill-filtered, nor has any coloring been added, ensuring that the original character of the distillate and its cask maturation remains intact. Furthermore, no sugar has been added.
