The house was founded in 1772 by Philippe Clicquot and has specialized in the production of champagne ever since, with a focus on the Pinot Noir grape variety. After the death of her husband Francois Clicquot just two years after their marriage, Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin took over the management of the company in 1810. In 1986, Veuve Clicquot merged with Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy. Jacques Peters is currently the company's head winemaker. Veuve Clicquot's motto, both then and now, is: "Only one quality - the best".
