The house was founded in 1772 by Philippe Clicquot and has specialized in the production of champagne ever since, with a focus on the Pinot Noir grape variety. After the death of her husband Francois Clicquot just two years after their marriage, Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin took over the management of the company in 1810. In 1986, Veuve Clicquot merged with Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy. Jacques Peters is currently the company's head winemaker.
