Launched in 2010, Kraken Rum is a Caribbean black spiced rum produced by the American company Proximo Spirits. The base rum, a molasses rum from Trinidad, is made from locally grown sugar cane. Kraken Rum is inspired by the Kraken, a giant mythical sea monster.
Legend has it that a long time ago, a ship carrying a large quantity of black spiced rum mysteriously disappeared in the Caribbean islands, along with all the sailors on board. Rumor has it that the ship was attacked by the Kraken, a monster that lives in the deepest and darkest depths of the sea and only surfaces to destroy and devour entire ships. Only a single barrel of rum survived the attack, stained with the Kraken's black ink and given the name "The Kraken Rum".
Rumor has it that the Kraken has been spotted descending Niagara Falls and even storming hot dog contests at Coney Island. "The Kraken Attacks New York" is described as "as dark as a New Yorker's sense of humor," reflecting its dark color and bold spice.
