The distillery GlenDronach was founded in 1826 by James Allardice. GlenDronach Port Wood was inspired by the historic importation in the 19th century of port wine in casks to Scotland. In the 1800s, port wine was essential. The finest port wines traveled down the Douro River from Portugal and were destined for Scottish nobles. Today, Portugal's Douro Valley is still known for its exceptional port wines.
GlenDronach PORT WOOD single malt Scotch whisky is aged in PX and oloroso sherry casks. In addition, this whisky gets a post-maturation in port wine casks, in which the finest port wine was previously matured for 3 years. The whiskey is neither cold-filtered nor are additional colorants added.
