Bogart's Bitters plays a central role in the history of cocktail culture, as it was the first bitters to be mentioned by name in the very first cocktail book, written in 1862 by Jerry Thomas, a key figure in the first golden age of cocktails.

Historically, it is believed that Bogart's Bitters was a contemporary spelling variant of Boker's Bitters, a recipe that was used in cocktail recipes around the world long before other bitters. As early as 1888, the first Martini cocktail recipe explicitly called for the use of "genuine Bogart's/Boker's", which underlines the enormous importance and popularity of this bitters. For this edition, The Bitter Truth has carried out many years of intensive research and uses an extremely rare original bottle from around 1900. The recipe, aroma profile and style have been carefully reconstructed, age-related changes have been eliminated and transferred into a modern, authentic form.
