The Terra d'Aligi Tatone Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC 2023 is a full-bodied Italian red wine from the Abruzzo region, made from 100% Montepulciano grapes. Its name, “Tatone,” stems from regional tradition and is an affectionate term for the grandfather, who represents experience, wisdom, and prestige within the family. These values are also reflected in the philosophy of the Terra d’Aligi winery, which combines knowledge of viticulture passed down through generations with modern winemaking techniques. The grapes come from the winery’s own Forca di Lupo vineyard, whose limestone- and clay-rich soils form the foundation for this expressive Montepulciano. Half of the vines are trained on pergolas and half in rows, with a planting density of approximately 4,000 vines per hectare in the row-trained vineyards.

After harvest, temperature-controlled fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, accompanied by an extended maceration period to bring out the characteristic qualities of the Montepulciano grapes. The Terra d’Aligi Tatone 2023 then ages for an extended period in large Slavonian oak barrels before additional bottle aging rounds out its development. This traditional aging process gives the wine its mature, complex style and underscores its close connection to the winegrowing culture of Abruzzo. With 14% alcohol in the 0.75-liter bottle, the Tatone Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC is a sophisticated red wine aged in the style of a Riserva, distinguished by its origin, single-varietal vinification, and extended aging period.
