The Max's line is named after the legendary cellar master Max Schubert, considered the inventor of the iconic Grange. With this wine series, Penfolds honors its philosophy of creating wines that are equally accessible, full of character, and of the highest quality.
The cuvée combines Australia's two most important grape varieties: Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. Shiraz provides richness, spice, and dark fruit, while Cabernet Sauvignon adds structure, elegance, and depth. The grapes come from various premium vineyards in South Australia, including McLaren Vale, Coonawarra, and the Barossa Valley, which ensure optimal ripeness and aromatic diversity. Aging takes place partly in French and American oak barrels, which lends the wine additional complexity, fine roasted aromas, and structure.
