This rum is significantly influenced by the climatic conditions of the Central American state of Nicaragua.
It is produced by Compania Licorera de Nicaragua, a company with origins dating back to 1890 and based in Managua.
Interestingly, the actual distillery is not located in the capital Managua, but in the immediate vicinity of the sugar factory in Chichigalpa, around 120 kilometers from Managua.
The name of this rum is derived from the volcano of the same name, Mombacho, which rises near the distillery on the shores of Lake Nicaragua. This volcano, which bears the name Mombacho, not only shapes the surroundings, but also plays a role in the climatic conditions and influences that define the character of this rum.
This Mombacho matures for 12 years in ex-bourbon barrels and is finished in Sauternes barrels.
