The upheavals at the beginning of the 20th century and in particular the First World War, which destroyed half of Domaine Louis Roederer, prompted Leon Olry Roederer to rebuild his vineyard.
He decided to buy grapes to ensure the survival of the estate in these times of crisis. At the same time, he created a wine from several vintages with a consistent taste, regardless of the harvest year.
Collection 243 consists of 56% of the 2017 vintage (42% Chardonnay, 36% Pinot Noir and 22% Meunier) as well as 10% reserve wines and 34% Reserve Perpetuelle.
It brings together wines matured in oak barrels from the three Champagne grape varieties from various crus selected by Louis Roederer.
Maturation takes place for three to four years in the company's own cellars.
