Laphroaig is a whisky distillery on the Scottish Hebridean island of Islay and is owned by the Japanese-American Beam Suntory Group. The distillery's buildings are classified in the Scottish heritage lists. In the production of Laphroaig, barley malt is dried over a peat fire. The smoke from this peat, which is only found on Islay, gives Laphroaig its particularly rich flavor.

In total, the Ian Hunter Story comprises five editions, which are published annually. Book 4: Malt Master is already the fourth and penultimate in this series. The fourth part is devoted to the establishment of the malt floors. To this day, the distillery produces its own barley malt there as the basis for its excellent whiskies. The packaging of the Laphroaig not only resembles a book, it can actually be flipped open and a total of 15 pages tell the story of the distillery.

This 34-year-old whiskey first matures in American white oak bourbon barrels. The single malt is finished in European first-fill Oloroso Sherry casks before being bottled at 46.2% by volume.
