In 1921, the travel apothecary Hugo Kuemmerling developed his first alcohol-based herbal mixture in Deesbach, Thuringia. The result was a stomach bitter that he called "Boonekamp". Over the years, he continued to develop the recipes for his unique herbal mixtures that are still valid today. When Johannes Presch, the founder's son-in-law, rebuilt and modernized the production facility in Bodenheim near Mainz in 1963, the tradition was continued.
