The Isle of RAASAY 5 Years Old Bordeaux Red Wine Cask Single Malt 59.9% is a robust Hebridean single malt Scotch whisky from the Isle of Raasay Distillery, a single cask release that was matured entirely in a first-fill Bordeaux red wine cask. Peated single malt was used for this bottling, combining robust smokiness with the intense influence of the red wine cask. The high-quality Bordeaux casks come from chateaux in southwestern France and are made of European oak. During maturation, they impart tannins, dark fruit, and spicy wood notes to the whisky. The distillery on the small Isle of Raasay, off the coast of the Isle of Skye, is the island’s first legal whisky distillery and combines its maritime heritage with an unusually diverse cask management program.

After 5 years of aging, the whiskey is bottled at a robust 59.9% in natural cask strength. This particular bottling comes from Bordeaux Red Wine Cask No. 18/721 and is part of the Na Sia Single Cask Series, which individually showcases the various cask components that define the characteristic Raasay style. The whiskey is not chill-filtered and is bottled without added colorants, so its color and character derive exclusively from the distillate and cask aging. Dark berries, dried fruits, and spicy oak meet pronounced peat smoke and maritime notes.
