The Hillinger HILL 1 2020 14% vol. 1.5 l is the first great top wine from the Leo Hillinger winery and has set a style-defining benchmark in Burgenland viticulture since its launch. The cuvee of Merlot, Blaufraenkisch and Zweigelt comes from selected vineyards with deep, mineral-rich soils that offer optimal conditions for powerful, long-lasting red wines. Vinification involves careful processing by hand, followed by extensive ageing: 24 months in new French wood, then 3-5 years in new and used barriques before the wine is matured further in the magnum bottle. This combination of long barrel ageing and large bottle volume makes a decisive contribution to its density, structure and impressive depth of development. The dry ageing, the precise cuveeing and the high ageing potential of 10 years and beyond underline its position as the house's flagship wine.

The 2020 vintage impressively demonstrates the combination of grape variety diversity, terroir and ambitious cellar work. The composition of 50% Merlot, 25% Blaufraenkisch and 25% Zweigelt gives it balance, power and aromatic complexity, while the long contact with French oak forms structure and elegance. The HILL 1 presents itself as a wine of international stature, which plays a special role both in a gastronomic context and in private moments of enjoyment. Bottled in a 1.5-liter magnum, it also offers extended ageing potential and a particularly harmonious development.
