Gerard Bertrand LA CLAPE An1650 2024 14% Vol. 0,75l
Gerard Bertrand La Clape An1650 2024 is a powerful French red wine from the La Clape AOP in the Languedoc, crafted from the Mediterranean grape varieties Syrah, Carignan, and Mourvèdre. The name "An1650" pays homage to the long history of viticulture and trade in the area around Narbonne; the Greeks established the region as a significant center for winemaking as early as antiquity, while maritime wine trade flourished particularly around the year 1650. In the Massif de la Clape, the grapes benefit from a slow ripening process and a relatively late harvest—taking place between late September and mid-October—which yields ripe, concentrated fruit. All grapes for this La Clape red wine from Gerard Bertrand are hand-harvested and transported to the winery in traditional harvesting containers known as *comportes*.
Following the hand-harvest, the grapes are destemmed and placed into stainless steel tanks, where they undergo a maceration period lasting approximately 20 to 25 days. This extended contact with the skins facilitates extraction and forms the foundation for the wine’s distinct structure. The young wine is then drained and aged for eight months in wooden barrels before continuing its further development. With an alcohol content of 14% in a 0.75-liter bottle, the Gerard Bertrand An1650 2024 combines classic grape varieties from the southern French Mediterranean region with traditional hand-harvesting and careful barrel aging. The blend of Syrah, Carignan, and Mourvèdre, the protected La Clape AOP origin, and the eight-month maturation period make it a characterful example of red wine from the Languedoc.
