Don Papa GAYUMA Rum 40% is an extraordinary limited edition from Don Papa; its name, “Gayuma,” roughly translates to “love potion.” This release is designed as a tribute to the shamans and mystical rituals surrounding Mount Kanlaon on the Philippine island of Negros, the region closely linked to the origins of the Don Papa brand. For this special edition, the rum is first aged for three years in ex-bourbon barrels, which gives it a smooth base profile and typical notes of vanilla and oak. This is followed by an elaborate double finish, which gives the Gayuma a distinctly unique character within the Don Papa lineup.

In the first stage of the finish, the Don Papa Gayuma spends another six months in heavily toasted Rioja wine barrels, which impart additional fruit, spice, and toasted notes. This is followed by a final three-month maturation in oak barrels that previously held smoky Islay malt whiskey. This final maturation step imparts a subtle peat and smoke note that blends with vanilla, orange peel, cocoa, and spices. With an alcohol content of 40% and a bottle size of 0.7 liters, this limited-edition bottling is particularly aimed at lovers of whiskey-cask-finished rum who appreciate smoky and spicy cask notes in addition to sweet, fruity components.
