Daftmill, one of Scotland's newest and smallest malt whisky distilleries, is located in Fife, north of Edinburgh. The name derives from the optical illusion that the local stream, the "Daft" Burn, appears to flow uphill, which led to the naming of the mill, "Daft Mill". The Cuthbert family has been growing malting barley at Daftmill Farm for six generations. Brothers Francis and Ian Cuthbert applied for planning permission for the distillery in 2003, which received its license on St. Andrews Day 2005.

Daftmill uses barley from its own farm and water from its own spring for whisky production. The first whisky was produced on December 16, 2005, making Daftmill the youngest distillery in Scotland at the time, although the buildings date back to 1655. The distillery was largely built using local labor and materials from the surrounding area.

The 2011 vintage is part of Daftmill's annual summer batch release. This single malt was distilled from Publican barley, which was grown in a single field on the farm and malted in the summer of 2010. It was matured in 27 first-fill bourbon casks from the Clermont Springs distillery in Kentucky until bottling in 2023.
