The company's founder, Don Andres Brugal Montaner, left his native Spain to seek wealth in the Caribbean.
After learning the craft of rum production in Cuba, he was drawn to the Dominican Republic, more precisely to Puerto Plata, around 1855. It is in this city that the rums of the Brugal company still mature today. After a few years there, he developed his own production process, which ensures a consistent quality of the rums. To this day, this process is a well-kept secret that is now passed down from generation to generation.
The Brugal Extra Viejo Ron is a premium rum that matures for up to eight years in hand-selected American oak barrels after distillation.
