After the first batch was tasted by Jack Napier, the original distiller, the name was changed to Black Velvet to honor the whisky's uniquely velvety taste. As a typical Canadian whisky, Black Velvet is made from a blend of rye, barley and corn and is matured for three years in bourbon barrels.
