Weisshaus in Tirol has had access to rare rarities from the Ardbeg Distillery since 2017. Mr. Osler selected two special casks on site from Ardbeg's private stocks.
This Ardbeg Anamorphic The Ultimate Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky bottling is characterized by its experimental approach to unconventional cask maturation and is the brainchild of Dr. Bill Lumsden, Director for Distillation and Whisky Creation at Ardbeg. For Ardbeg Anamorphic, the distillery has redefined the conventional ex-bourbon casks in terms of cask treatment. The barrel lids were removed and deeply scored to create the largest possible wood surface and were then burnt out to a "high mocha" degree, giving the whisky intense aromas during maturation. The result is a multi-layered bottling that varies between the four characteristic key elements of Ardbeg: sweetness, smokiness, herbal aromas and spiciness. Ardbeg Anamorphic is bottled at 48.2% alcohol by volume, is non-chill-filtered and non-colored.
