The Lost Distillery Company is an independent distillery that seeks to bring old whiskies back to life through historical records and research. For these whiskies, young and old casks are used to create 15-18 year old whiskies. The second bottling of the Lost Distillery is this Stratheden. The Stratheden distillery was founded in 1829 and unfortunately closed in 1926 due to the consequences of prohibition. Some parts of the original building still stand today. The label has the same colour as the door to the old warehouse of the distillery. Finally the distillery was known as Auchtermuchty and was owned by the Bonthrone family, who were known far and wide as brewers and maltsters. Alexander Bonthrone founded the distillery and distilled whisky there until his death in 1890. He became Scotland's oldest distillery master at the age of 92. Another special feature of the distillery was the unique Lovers Pool water source. Peat from the Orkney Islands was used for this whisky.
