Matthew Gloag, the namesake grandson of the founder, took over the family business 96 years after its founding in 1800. A year later, he created a new blend, which he named "The Grouse Brand" in anticipation that many hunters would stop off in Perth during the hunting season. His daughter designed the matching label with the Scottish national bird. The whiskey immediately sold so well that within just a few years, "The Famous" was added to the name and the "Brand" designation was simply omitted. And so the popular whisky is still called The Famous Grouse today.
This Famous Grouse is created from a selection of Speyside malts and grains. The maturation, as well as the finish is done in sherry casks.
