The Deveron is a malt whisky from the MacDuff Distillery, named after the river of the same name on the banks of which the distillery is located in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. This whisky matures for 12 years in oak casks. Although geographically located in the Highlands, the MacDuff Distillery is often assigned to the Speyside region, but can also be considered part of the Highlands.
The distillery, which dates back to either 1960 or 1962, uses water from the Gelly Spring for its whisky production. With an annual production capacity of 2.8 million liters, MacDuff has two wash stills and three spirit stills. MacDuff innovated by being the first to use metal mash tuns and steam to heat the stills.
