Tenuta San Guido is a prestigious winery in the Bolgheri region of Tuscany, Italy. It is known for producing one of the most famous and prestigious wines in the world, Sassicaia. The estate and winery have a rich history and have played a significant role in the development of Italian wine. It was founded in the 1940s by Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, who had the vision of producing a Bordeaux-style wine in Tuscany, focusing on the Cabernet Sauvignon grape variety. The vineyards of Tenuta San Guido cover around 2,500 hectares and are located near the Tyrrhenian Sea. The proximity to the sea, combined with the sandy and rocky soils of the area, creates an ideal microclimate for the cultivation of Cabernet Sauvignon and other grape varieties.

Le Difese, first launched on the market in 2003, is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese, two typical Tuscan grape varieties that give the wine both structure and complexity. The grape harvest began on September 16th with the Cabernet Sauvignon variety and ended with Sangiovese. After careful vinification, the wine matures for 12 months in French and American barriques and has ageing potential until 2028. The red wine is sealed with a natural cork.

The name "Le Difese" means "The Defenses" in English and is derived from the historic stone towers that can be found throughout the Tuscan countryside and once served as defensive fortifications. This name symbolizes the winery's commitment to preserving and honouring the rich heritage and traditions of the region.
