The Tement winery, located in southern Styria on the border with Slovenia, concentrates primarily on the cultivation of white grape varieties. 95% of its vineyards are planted with varieties such as Welschriesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Gelber Muskateller, Pinot Blanc, Morillon and Traminer. The wines, which are grouped under the name "Steirische Klassik", come from different vineyards and mature in stainless steel tanks. In addition to the "Steirische Klassik", the winery also produces single-vineyard wines, each of which reflects the characteristic influence of its specific vineyard site and is matured in both large and small wooden barrels.

Ried Grassnitzberg, the first vineyard owned by the Tement family, is considered an outstanding example in the world of winemaking. Planted by founder Josef Tement himself in the 1950s, this vineyard offers a unique expression of the terroir. The old vines rooted in this southeast-facing basin location find their origins in an astonishing 16-million-year-old coral reef.

The special climate of the cool vineyard allows the grapes to ripen exceptionally late. The grapes are carefully harvested by hand and thrive on loose brown soil that rests on sparse coral limestone. A 24-month maturation on the fine lees gives this wine a remarkable elegance, independence and long-lasting spiciness. Spontaneous fermentation and ageing in large neutral wooden barrels for 24 months give it its unmistakable character.

The wine is bottled unfiltered and sealed with a natural cork, which gives it a storage potential of around 15 years.
