After that the distillery changed hands a few times, when Harveys of Edinburgh took over the distillery he changed the name of their single malts to "Spey".
The tradition of the Spey Chairman's Choice was born on Christmas Day 1787, when John Harvey gave his family a selected bottling.
In 1920, Alec Harvey expanded this tradition by additionally gifting his friends a selection of single malts as well.
John Harvey McDonough, the current Chairman, continues this tradition by bottling the Spey Chairman's Choice in selected casks for all whisky lovers.
