The Paul Kerschbaum winery is one of the leading wineries in Austria. It is located in the Blaufraenkisch region of Horitschon in Burgenland. The term "Blaufraenkischland" refers to a wine-growing region in central Burgenland, where the Blaufraenkisch grape variety is mainly cultivated. Paul Kerschbaum's aim is to produce powerful, long-lasting wines with a woody touch. In 2011, Paul Kerschbaum placed the production of the wines in the hands of his son Michael.
Paul Kerschbaum Blaufraenkisch Ried Hochaecker is made from 100% Blaufraenkisch grapes, which come exclusively from the single vineyard Hochaecker. The temperature-controlled maceration lasts 22 days, followed by malolactic fermentation, most of which takes place in wooden barrels. The wine then matures for 16 months in these barrels, which gives it its complex structure and variety of aromas. After ageing, the Blaufraenkisch is bottled and sealed with a screw cap.
