The recipe was created in the 16th century by Ambrozy Vermoolen - a religious refugee from Holland who settled in Gdansk.
Original Gdansk Goldwater Liqueur is a historical and well-known liqueur that originated in the city of Gdansk, now Gdansk, in present-day Poland. It is widely considered to be one of the oldest known liqueur brands in the world. Gdansk Goldwasser was first produced in the early 17th century by German distiller Abraham Kunckel. The liqueur enjoyed great popularity and became a favorite of various European royal courts, including those of Russia and Prussia. Its reputation grew due to its unique and visually striking feature: the presence of real flakes of 22 to 23.75 carats of gold suspended in the liquid.
