For centuries the mainlanders of Luss, on the west side of Loch Lomond, used Inchmoan as their source of peat fuel for the village fires. Hence the name "Inch-moan", "the island of peat" in Gaelic.

The Inchmoan 12 Years Old is a combination of malt whiskies from a traditional swan-neck-pot still and a straigt-neck-pot still to create an unconventional peat character with lots of depth, which also combines smoke and spiciness.

The 12-year maturation takes place in a blend of newly charred American oak and refilled American bourbon barrels. These impart sweet vanilla notes that complement Loch Lomond Distillery's unique peat style.
