Kavalan Distillery was founded in 2005 by T.T. Lee, the president of the Taiwanese food conglomerate King Car Group. His long-cherished wish was to establish his own whisky distillery in Taiwan. The name "Kavalan" refers to the Yilan region, which lies south-east of the capital Taipei. A decisive factor in the choice of location was the region's outstanding water quality. Yilan has an abundance of cold spring water that rises from Snow Mountain.
The Kavaln matured in Oloroso sherry casks is part of the Kavalan Core Series.
