The Gesellmann estate, documented since 1719, is a pioneer in Burgenland viticulture. Under the management of Engelbert Gesellmann, international grape varieties were introduced in the 1980s and matured in French barriques, resulting in iconic wines such as Opus Eximium and Bela Rex. With 50 hectares, the winery is geared towards supplying discerning wine lovers worldwide, focusing on organic quality and manual work in harmony with nature. Only the best grape material is processed, including grapes from ninety-year-old vines, which contribute to the flavor structure of the wines. Vinification is carried out using state-of-the-art cellar technology, with knowledge passed down through generations playing an important role.

Gesellmann Bela Rex is a cuvee that consists of equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot and thrives on gravelly loess soil and calcareous clay soil. The grapes are carefully harvested by hand, with the Merlot harvest beginning at the end of September and the Cabernet Sauvignon harvest at the beginning of October.

The weather conditions during the harvest were optimal. Each grape variety is vinified separately. Spontaneous maceration takes place in steel tanks, while the cap is submerged 2 to 4 times a day. The malolactic fermentation takes place in oak barrels. The wine then matures for 25 months in small oak barrels before being refined for a further 6 months in large wooden barrels.

Bottling takes place in November 2023. Under optimal storage conditions, the wine has a storage potential until 2033 and is sealed with a natural cork.

The name "Bela Rex" is derived from King Bela IV of Hungary, who was first mentioned in documents in connection with wine.
