Domaene Wachau, located in Austria's most renowned wine-growing region, the Wachau, is one of the country's leading white wine producers. Steep terraced vineyards, a cool marginal climate and barren primary rock soils characterize the wines of the Wachau. "Smaragd" refers to particularly complex, powerful and long-lived wines of the Wachau.
A mild and dry winter was followed by a wet April, which positively influenced the ripening of the grapes. The beginning of the harvest was marked by rainfall, but in October the sun returned and the grapes were able to ripen slowly but perfectly. The best grapes from the Wachau terraced vineyards are hand-selected for this Gruener Veltliner. The result is an elegant, precise wine with a special vital acidity and energy.
