The history of Compania Vinicola del Norte de Espana began in the town of Haro in 1879, when the company's initials were taken and the name "CVNE" was created. A simple spelling mistake, in which the V was spoiled with a U, led to the creation of the leading wine brand on the national market today, "CUNE". The company's wine production takes place in "Eli Pilar", the first wine production plant in Spain.
The vineyards for the production of Cune Rioja Crianza are located in Rioja Alta, near the CVNE winery. Half of the grapes come from the company's own vineyards in Haro and the surrounding towns.
Cune Rioja Crianza is made from Tempranillo, Garnacha and Mazuelo grapes, which are fermented in 20,000 kilo stainless steel tanks at 25 to 27 °C. The wine is then fermented for 12 days. After 12 days of fermentation, the grapes are pressed and malolactic fermentation takes place. The wine then matures for a year in American oak barrels before being bottled with natural corks.
