The XO in its name stands for "Extra Old," which means that the cognac has been aged for a longer period of time and exceeds the minimum requirements for aging cognac.

Courvoisier XO is made from a blend of eaux-de-vie from the Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne and Borderies crus, which are among the best growing regions for Cognac production. This noble drop is often considered a symbol of luxury and sophistication. The association with Napoleon Bonaparte stems from the fact that Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte is said to have preferred Courvoisier cognac during his reign.
