The Gesellmann estate, documented since 1719, is a pioneer in Burgenland viticulture. Under the management of Engelbert Gesellmann, international grape varieties were introduced in the 1980s and matured in French barriques, resulting in iconic wines such as Opus Eximium and Bela Rex. With 50 hectares, the winery is geared towards supplying discerning wine lovers worldwide, focusing on organic quality and manual work in harmony with nature. Only the best grape material is processed, including grapes from ninety-year-old vines, which contribute to the flavor structure of the wines. Vinification is carried out using state-of-the-art cellar technology, with knowledge passed down through generations playing an important role.

The grape harvest for Opus Eximium No. 33 began in mid-September and was carefully carried out by hand. The grapes for the cuvee with St. Laurent were harvested first, followed by the Zweigelt grapes. The Blaufraenkisch grapes were harvested at the beginning of October to complete the harvest. This wine consists of 60% Blaufraenkisch, 30% Zweigelt and 10% St. Laurent. Each grape variety was processed separately in order to preserve its individual characteristics.

The traditional mash fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks, with the mash cap being submerged two to four times a day. Fermentation took place spontaneously, without the addition of artificial yeasts. After maturing for a total of 24 months in small oak barrels, the wines were blended into a cuvee. This was followed by a further 2-month maturation in large wooden barrels to complete the harmonious development of the wine. This wine has a storage potential until 2033 and is sealed with a natural cork.
